35th Reaction Mechanisms Conference

June 22-25, 2014

UC Davis

The RMC has been serving the mechanistic chemistry community for over 60 years, and typically about 150-200 faculty, students and industrial chemists attend the meeting. The audience and scientific presentations are relatively broad with representation of state-of-the-art chemistry in organic, inorganic, biological and physical chemistry, involving aspects of mechanism and structure.

Among the the topics that will be covered at RMC 2014 include C-H bond activation, the Bergman Cyclization, pi stacking, solar energy materials, FRET, reactive intermediates and matrix isolation.

We have an outstanding international program of speakers planned, including...

Thomas Bally (Fribourg)
Ted Betley (Harvard)
Jillian Buriak (Alberta)
William Dichtel (Cornell)
Gary Douberly (Georgia)
Karen Goldberg (Washington)
Edyta Greer (Baruch)
Brent Iverson (Texas)
Eric Jacobsen (Harvard)
Rebecca Jockush (Toronto)
Graham Jones (Northeastern)
Mary Watson (Delaware)
Carol Parish (Richmond)
Neil Schore (UCDavis)
Robert Sheridan (Nevada)
Ken Shimizu (South Carolina)
Stacey Wetmore (Lethridge)
Steven Wheeler (Texas A&M)
Jeff Zaleski (Indiana)

This will be a very special RMC as we will be celebrating the career and accomplishments of Prof. Robert G. Bergman. In addition to having technical sessions that include Prof. Bergman's research interests and illustrate the impact that he has had on the field of physical organic and organometallic chemistry, there will also be a special session honoring Prof. Bergman, with presentations from his friends and colleagues.

We hope that you will be able to join us for what promises to be an outstanding scientific conference! Please plan to attend. Additional details will be forthcoming.

History of RMC

Brian Myers and Ed Fenlon are researching the history of the Reaction Mechanisms Conference (view their recent work on the NOS). Currently, they are gathering information, photos, and stories about past conferences from previous participants. In particular, they are looking for the speakers and titles for the RMC from these years: 1962, 1964, 1966, 1980, 1984, 1986, 1988, 1990, 1992, 1994, 1996, 2000, 2002. Ideally this would come from copies of the program books - scanned in electronic versions or hard copies. Please send information to Brian Myers and Ed Fenlon.
